What is hypnosis like?

Hypnosis is firstly, and most importantly, a natural state of mind, which means that virtually every person has the natural capacity for response to hypnosis. There is nothing unnatural or supernatural about it. Hypnosis is simply a natural state of physical, mental and emotional relaxation, along with a heightened state of awareness.

This change of consciousness is extremely comfortable and relaxing, just like those moments before you fall asleep and as you start to wake up in the morning. You’ll feel very relaxed, yet your mind will still be highly focused and aware.

Hypnosis is our innate ability to achieve very deep levels of relaxation, accompanied by an intense focus on a desired goal. During labour and birth, the goal is to remain completely relaxed, which prevents the tension that leads to pain. The other benefit of self-hypnosis is that we learn to block out external distractions so that we can go very deep within and tap into our natural birthing instincts. When we are in touch with our body we instinctively know what to do.

The intense relaxation from self-hypnosis helps mothers to labour faster, more easily and more comfortably.
